How To Convert Documents Easily

Start of by formatting and tidying up the document in Microsoft Word (or Open Office which is free).

You need to look at the Page Layout tab.

We are going to adjust the margin sizes-

Click the size button and ensure the height and width are correct (the rest can be left to default). Make sure you apply this to the whole document.

You want to keep the margins the same size all way round so they are consistent.

You need at least .25 but the text can be easily read with .5

Next you can play around with some of the aesthetics in the Insert tab.

You can add the page numbers to the footer of each page and it’s common for people to include a header as well.

You should make sure when starting a new chapter, you add a page break instead of hitting enter to get to a fresh page.

You can use the Home tab to look at things like line & paragraph spacing and indenting.

Then simply take the .doc file (not new .docx), remove any images and upload to Amazon KDP and reinsert the images.

Then all you need to do is tidy up the format.

Offering a service to convert documents into Kindle-friendly versions is a simple yet called for service and as you can see you don’t need any qualifications or even experience to do this.

And why stop there.

You could also offer a similar service for CreateSpace, SmashWords & Lulu!

Video Compression

Big video files result in slower transfers and slower websites.

Many people either don’t know how to make these videos smaller or they do but lose the quality.

You can provide a service which compresses videos and sheds the file size but also retains the quality. As if by magic!

How Can You Compress Video Easily

There is a really nifty free tool called Handbrake which allows you to significantly shrink the file size without losing quality.

First of all get Handbrake downloaded and then launch the tool. Be prepared it’s not the prettiest tool but it is sure effective.

To carry out this task you only actually need a few of the buttons…

Load up your video by hitting source > open file.

In the Destination box, you need to enter a name for the file and you can select a destination where the video will be saved to once compressed.

Then ensure the Output Settings look like this….

On the video tab ensure that H.264(X264) is selected on the Video Codec section.

Then click Start to compress the video. A small file may take around 20 seconds to compress but this will depend on the size of the file.

Make sure you check and record the file size before and after.
